Graduation Guy

My husband Tony is graduating from law school, so of course I saw an opportunity for an invitation. The best part was the purple envelopes I used—you have to respect school colors, right?

This week, the “Feed the Pig” campaign is wrapping up on campus.
This series of events aims to teach students about the power of philanthropy by encouraging participation in giving. Students were given a small piggy bank last fall and encouraged to fill it with change in a competition against other class years. The class with the highest participation—the first-year class—will celebrate with a party at the Augsburg House this week. All of the money raised by students went toward an Auggie Scholarship.

This project is a great example of the good work that is produced through partnerships on campus. Marcom was happy to work with the Office of Alumni and Constituent Relations to make this event a success. They approached us with a unique, creative idea and we produced everything from hanging signs to the piggy banks themselves.

This project was enjoyable for me, as a designer, for a few reasons. First, the idea that the Alumni office brought to us—Feed the Pig—was fun and creative. Furthermore, they trusted me and gave me freedom in the design work and requested many different items (buttons, t-shirts, and even a chart to mark participation progress) that were fun to work together into a package of collateral. We do dozens of posters each week, but being able to take a project to the next level is always exciting. Finally, the series was a huge success. We heard from those collecting change during “Piggy Round-up Days” that students were excited to participate and were beginning to really understand the importance of philanthropy.

Kudos to the Office of Alumni and Constituent Relations for a fantastic program and thanks for letting us be a part of it!
